Unpinned – The story of Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim Scholarship recipient Danielle Lim

Danielle was forced to get acquainted with the idea of wrestling from young.

As a child, with an abusive father, she grew up thinking violence within a family was the norm.

When this abuse turned to absence, putting meals on the table became the new struggle for her mother, siblings and her. Even scrambling 50 cents together for a bland meal of porridge could be too much to ask.

But she had her mother’s strength as example through it all, and made a simple promise to herself: to never break her mother’s heart. So Danielle rejected bitterness, embraced forgiveness, and vowed instead to make good of every opportunity that comes her way.

Today, the Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim scholarship recipient wrestles not with the challenges of life, but her competitors across the wrestling mat. This is her story.
